Subject: Question: In corn silage production, typical yield hits from rootworm

Across the corn belt depending on time of year
After information from the corn silage producers in Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa and Nebraska.

What is the typical yield hit when rootworm causes damage leading to goose necked corn?

My research in NY indicated 8-10 tons with an expected yield of 26-30 tons/ac. Which is ~30% yield loss. If silage is valued at 10X the grain price then value is $42/ton and $336-420/ac.

My research in Roswell, NM indicated 25 tons loss with an expected yield of 38-40 tons/ac. Which is a 35% yield loss and a value loss of $546/ac (13 tons x $42/ton)

How do these values compare to silage production in Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa and Nebraska?

Thanks Elson
