East of Broken Bow | My bunks are on the North side of the lot.
The sun shines on the calf side of the bunks, thawing it out quicker, which is good from the standpoint of them not getting snow/ice/manure piled up as bad near the bunks, but if you don't have Concrete for them to stand on, it turns into a muddy mess sooner in the spring. Good for winter feeding as the feedwagon blocks the North winds so less dust blows around. You don't realize how much dust can swirl around a feedwagon until you get a day where the wind comes from the South.
As far as snow removal, I've been around bunks to the North, West, and South, and they all need to be scooped out after a snow. Bunks on the West side probably have you eating the least dust over the coarse of the year. | |
