Central NE | coal and gas both failed during the 21 storm. the southwest power pool had just bragged on their website the month prior that 55% of the energy delivered was from wind.
when the record cold and freezing rain hit, the windmills iced up, the southern coal plants couldnt get coal out of their hoppers because it froze and they lack the mechanizations that northern coal plants have that are used to operate through freezing weather.
the power blackouts shut off oil wells producing natural gas right as record amounts of gas was demanded for heating, and there wasnt enough gas for gas powerplants which shut down leading to more blackouts, more loss of gas production at wells...
nuclear was fine. the rest was fubar
