Agree..my wife and I were just talking about this recently. Seemed in the 80's the classmates who lived in town, were somewhat struggling the same as farm families. They were worried about losing jobs, lay offs, not having a good paying job if they didn't "know" someone to get them in.
Now it seems non farm households have a lot of disposable income for toys. Not that way in the 80's.
It was hard to even get a decent job in that era. If you had one without continuous layoffs, you were lucky. At least that’s the way it was here. Deere, Oliver/white farm, Winnebago were the major employers. Constant layoffs. |
