I have to wonder how your older neighbor treated his kids. If you work them hard, you should pay them accordingly. Also vacations and travel help them realize that farming doesn't have to be all drudgery. My kids both married other farm kids and will be part of farm operations for the rest of their lives. They also make it a priority to have some fun along the way.
