Driftless SW Wisconsin | I just put out enough hay in rings for the time we'll be gone. I figure cattle eat 3% of their weight per day and put out that much hay before we leave. Daughter or friend drives by to check the waterer every day. We let neighbors know we'll be gone and they keep an eye on things as they drive by.
Knowing the total weight of cattle in a pasture and weight of bales it works out. We were only away for 5 days. Last week was actually pretty mild weather here for Feb. Calving won't start until around the end of April or beginning of May. I do need to wean calves when this snow is gone.
I don't want anyone else using equipment when I'm gone. Biggest problem is having someone feed the cats!
