Subject: RE: Bulking up overgrazed pastures

Northeast Missouri

I actually do mean overgrazed, not likely slow growth due to fertility or pH.  Last soil test was in 2019. pH =6.13, P&K both in the Moderate range, with K near the upper end of that range. Ca and Mg both in Desired range (which is above Moderate). The only thing low was Sulfur.

We've hayed it a lot in the past--usually 1 cutting early, plus a couple rounds of grazing in our rotation. And most areas of the field are very productive, most years. But last summer/fall late we were dry and we stayed on it longer than we should have (situation just worked out that way).

Because we hay it, we've been applying about 40 lbs. N, 40 lbs. P, and 70 lbs. K per year, and 10 - 15 lbs. Sulfur.
