I appreciate the artistry of some of the events but I quickly get lost on how to ‘judge’ it and then it loses any meaning to me. Figure skating used to have a technical round and a more free form round and that was interesting to watch whrn I was a kid. Now they got rid of the technical stuff, and added some dance events that I don’t know what they are judging them on any more.
It is a lot easier for me to get into the judgements of a timed or distance type of event.
The speed racing with the kids elbowing each other for position like a nascar track seems really unfair as they hand out penalties or not with no sense to it, even the announcers seemed perplexed by it all. But it’s fun to watch at least for a bit.
I really think curling is my favorite to watch, the precision, the strategy, the planning. It’s like bowling on ice with the defensive elements of chess thrown in. And as an old person it’s the one event left I can pretend I could still do.
