Im looking to get into freeze branding, planning on numbers on the rib cage and brand on hip. I will be doing yearling heifer and bulls, im looking for advice on number and brand sizing? As of now I plan on 3 inch numbers for the rib cage and then a 5x5 brand on the hip. Is that about the right size or should I go 4 inch numbers and 6x6 brand? Thanks for the input.

If your doing them as young yearlings the brand will increase in size as the body grows. I wouldn't go less than 4" as the hair grows out the small ones will need shaved off to read well. Bigger ones will probably be hard to get nice solid white consistent brands as the flatter and firmer you can hold them to the skin the better. If the brand gets on curves or bone protrusions, it doesn't do as good of a job.
