NW Missouri | I don't know about the other companies, but halter doesn't recommend putting collars on the calves. Not sure if they even go small enough to work on calves.
The only reason I know about halter is I have a good neighbor that uses them and they talked him into putting on a meeting about it, so I went. Looks like it works good, but you still need to have a perimeter fence. So you can't just turn them loose on crop fields or CRP with nothing else. Maybe a hot wire around the outside would be enough... In the meeting they mentioned that they wanted to let calves roam a little farther and get the first pick of grass in the next paddock.
I haven't done much research because I don't have a need for it right now, but of the systems I have seen, halters does look like the best one. The neighbors love it - but it's also the only brand they've used. | |
