Western Ontario | This is 60x60 with a 12 foot ceiling, no insulation however we do need to put some in the ceiling to prevent a bit of condensation. It was an old hog building that we doubled the width of so might not be exactly what we would do if starting from scratch. We basically run half of it as a bedded pack and then 2 smaller pens on either side of the calving pen. We won’t usually be as cold as you but had a ten day stretch of -20 to -25 and didn’t have any trouble keeping it at -10c. We have side panels and chimneys for ventilation. Usually once a cow calves they come out of there but just waiting to get straw moved out of another building to give us a bit more room for pairs. We’ve probably had almost as many as 30 jammed in at the start of calving in bad weather but 20 is more comfortable. If you’re insulated I wouldn’t think you’d have any problem but might want to put a pretty good layer of straw in so your floor doesn’t freeze and hold the cold if you’re not calving till Feb.
