The accuracy of the battle fleet at sea has always amazed me: a FLOATING, bobbing, moving gun bench in open ocean targeting a floating, bobbing, moving opponent at 15-18 MILES & hitting at least some of the time….. I wish I had been that good at short range when I dear-hunted.
Not related, but kinda: while pushing thru Belgium, a U.S. forward observer spotted a German tank parked in a street of a Belgian town-not moving. He radioed back coordinated to an Army 105 gun emplacement. They fired 5 rounds in rapid succession. He watched as the first round hit directly in front of the tank, second round hit the front of the tank( and alone was enough to disable the tank), the third round went down the hatch & blew the tank apart, the fourth round hit the motor hatch, the fifth round hit immediately behind the tank. Range:( I forget precisely, but) 5-7 miles…..
At JUNGLE JIM’S huge grocery store at Fairfield, Ohio-south of Dayton, they have a round from one of the big battle wagons setting on its base in one corner. Yi! Would not want to be anywhere near that when it would hit !
