southern MN | We can run a single tv streaming and a couple iPads running at the same time sometimes one or both are also streaming, on 15mbps and it’s not an issue. We do notice that’s about the limit tho and wouldn’t do much more with the 15mbps.
I’d think 50-100 would be fine for most home situations today.
We have 100mbps at another location, and have more issues with internet locking up or slowing down here than at the 15mbps.
I think the overall quality of the internet service, the latency they have, is more important than the raw speed number. We try to game and live chat with relatives on a 100mbps service in the Twin Cities, and they drop off a lot, are slow, because the quality of the data flow isn’t up to the speed their provider offers.
It would be like getting a water service that guarantees you 60# pressure, but then you find out they change the gallons per minute from 50 to 2 gallons off and on during the day. It’s not consistent and the pressure rating doesn’t mean much when the flow changes so much.
