Subject: RE: Rebuilding the herd is hard at these prices

Stopped by a friends place yesterday and found him digging up a broken water line. There should be frost still in the ground. He said he expected to be working in water because the line had been broken and running for several days,. He pointed to a pile of dry dirt. In a day it had all seeped away. Four feet and next to zero moisture. Trying to imagine how 1200-1300 pound heifers, trying to grow to be 1600 pound cows, trying to raise an AI sired calf with "breed leading growth" and also trying to rebreed is going to fare going into (from all current indications) a drought. Been there, done that, it isn't pretty. That is part of what I mean by people having no idea what profitable cattle are.
