I don't run them together. If the old sows are new to you, take a crow bar and stab it into the bed pack and make a few holes and pour shelled corn into the holes. Those sows will learn to root. Manure pack that can't be torn apart after a couple of sows (depending on square footage) can turn it into a product that a scoop shovel will easily scoop up.
