Actually, The term Undertaker came from the people who would undertake the task of preparing the body for burial. Someone from the community who was willing to preform the task. Seems like this was done at a kitchen table, back a long time ago. The viewing was done in someone’s, probably the deceased person’s, home.
When I was 6 years old my dad's oldest brother died. They had the casket and the body viewing in his home. That would have been 1951.
