Cherokee County, Northwest Iowa | My wife and I moved into this house 21 years ago, and the guy across the street was a 2nd generation funeral home director. He and his wife have become greats friends with us. He retired several years ago. As mentioned above in several posts, they do seem to have a unique sense of humor. I have always said thank goodness that there are people willing to do that kind of work. I have also noticed that they usually retire a little earlier than the general public.
Several years ago the 4 of us were sharing a condo on the Kona Coast of the Big Island of Hawaii. The State of Hawaii Civil Defense had a major screw-up on a Saturday morning, sending out an alert, mistakenly, that a nuclear bomb was headed to Honolulu and the Island of Oahu. After a few moments of wondering what the hell was going on, we decided, hopefully, that it was just a big mistake. But that didn't stop our neighbor and friend Richard from grabbing his half full bottle of Black Velvet, and going out to stand on our balcony, facing Oahu, saying "Well, I'm ready to go". |
