UP / Thumb of Michigan | In the county seat where i lived, one of the sons of a very well to do family worked at a funeral home, eventually bought it. I wasn't very old then, but I do recall him and his wife working at that funeral home when my Grandparents passed in 1967. My father was friends with him, very nice gentleman. His son started working into the business maybe 15 years ago, and he is really made for the occupation, I think. Very intelligent, seems to enjoy his work. I've been directly involved in planning 3 services at this funeral home, and I'm always impressed in how he can say the right thing at the right time. Its a job I couldn't do.
He as well as his parents are active in the community, and I've never heard anyone say a bad word about them.
Since I've know them, they've purchased at least 4 different funeral homes. They closed 2 down right away. One was in reality closed by the State of Michigan. Apparently, the owner had been taking money for prepaid funerals but not putting the money in escrow. From what I understand, in those cases, other funeral homes in the area take over those arrangements and make the families whole who lost their money. I'm positive that there's something in it for the funeral dir ectors who takes these arrangements on, but have no idea what the mechanics of that is. | |
