Eastern NE KS | In late December I ordered True Balance as well. ABS rep said he was in backorder status by 1500 straws. Yesterday, I received an update that he has about cleared the back order and my 30 straws are planned for mid March delivery.
He is probably the least proven bull I have used in recent years. Yet, he passes all of my critical epd breakpoints. For example, there are a number of Angus bull below breed average for scrotal circumference. Most of these are very attractive and have stellar maternal indexes. I just can't accept a SC epd that is below breed average.
There are other lines in the sand I hold for an ai sire. I want him to be breed average or better in carcass traits. I want a bull to have good ced for my heifers but his CEM should be numerically higher.
I was my ai sire to be below breed average for YH. This is my unproven hedge to keep cows at reasonable size. This may not work perfectly but I feel it may help.
My evaluation is supported by excellent teat and udder epd although these are some of the newer Angus scorecards so I believe as more data is reported to AAA, these will change.
His positive story for my intended use continues but an economic off setting pointare his prices. Straws sell for $50 and certificates cost another $50. | |
