Royal City, WA | We had a MacDon FD70 on our Case 8120 Combine. We harvest wheat and direct cut edible beans that were no tilled into timothy grass stubble. With the MacDon, we were never able to cut across pivot tracks without filling the belts with dirt or pushing piles on the ends when conditions toughened up and had to harvest in a circle. We now have a JD S770 and started with a 730FD header but now run a RD30F header and like them better. We are able to cut straight across about 95% of our pivot tracks unless they are built up too much and still don't worry about getting dirt plugged up in the belts or rollers. Being able to cut across the pivot tracks has saved time over cutting in a circle and not having to leave a strip of bean next to pivot track because we couldn't get close with the MacDon without plugging up. It is also nice to have the single point hookup and be able to adjust everything from the cab. The thing I liked better about the MacDon was the crop dividers on the ends of the header as I do not care for the ones on the Deere header. I've only tried direct cutting green peas with our RD30F header and had to use some flexxifinger crop lifters and could only go one way as they were lodged pretty bad. | |
