Subject: RE: Drapers- Deere vs MacDon

I have a macdon fd140 and I love that head because of its mechanical simplicity and reliability. Now that being said I have ran a 640fd and I didn’t like it at all and this fall due to my combine going down they rented me a John Deere s7 800 and the only head they had available was a John Deere rdf40 now that head ran really good to and would cut short beans really well but again it’s more complicated than the macdon and I feel that if I was to buy and run the deere head it’s a head that you need to trade more often than the macdon due to more moving parts that can start to cause trouble. In short if you are a farmer that buys headers and runs them till they are shot get the macdon but if your going to trade every 5 years or so then the deere would be fine too. But this is just my opinion
