Had a pickup do that with a weak coil. Opening the hood cut the "cool down time" and would start sooner. Computer issues can sometimes be reset temporally by disconnecting battery for 30 seconds and then grounding hot cable before reconnecting
An old mechanic trick for coil issues was to pour some water around it to cool it down. If it started after cooling, bad coil. Internal wire probably broke and made connection when unit contracted as it cools.
We used to also check old rotary Diesel injection pomps. CAV. If they started cold but not hot because of wear, pouring water on the pump would cool it enough to start hot. Had to be careful and not use ice water or could potentially seize up a good pump.
Did that more than once if killed a tractor hot out in the field and it would not restart.
