We had a Challenger 465 (Massey Ferguson) that would periodicly die. Would crank but no start. Just did it rarely. We fought it for a while. Took to dealership. They couldn't find it. Always started for them. Told them to keep it a while. So mechanic would periodicly start it at random when he walked by it. One day started it and while walking around the front brushed up against the alternator. Engine died and would not start. Tighten the ground wire on alternator and fixed the problem. Never had a problem with it again.
Strange but true. Bad grounds can do weird things.
