Subject: RE: Cleaning out pen pack

Southeast MN
I prefer my rock grapple for pen pack. No pictures though.

Just finished pen clean out this week before the fields get too soft. Corn stalk round bales with cutter knives. I try to stir up the pack once a week using pallet forks on the loader as a poor attempt at compost - that's another subject....

I generally let the pack get 2-2.5ft thick. That size matt works well with the 7ft grapple bucket. It takes 5 buckets full to load the NH195; loads are full but not so full that I leave a trail on the driveway. With the 7ft tooth bucket, same dimensions from pivot pin to cutting edge, it takes 8 buckets for the same size load.

What I noticed about the grapple is it will clamp a mat of bedding that sticks out a foot beyond the cutting edge. I should probably weigh a scoop full sometime as the SV280B skidsteer is VERY easy to turn around, not tipping but close.
