Subject: managing flies in the farm yard for 2026

East Central, Nebraska
not sure where to put this post but thought i would start here. we have a small cow herd, the cows are moved out of the yard after calving, sometimes it draws out until april-may. after that we just have 4H/fair calves on the yard. we have only 3 chickens and otherwise not much going on animal wise all summer. the flies though are incredibly terrible. our county now harbors a very large percentage of the broaster chickens that sell in costco stores. we have hundreds of barns within a few miles, some feedlots, a mile from me we have a cattle yard of 6000 small calves, they come from the large dairies in the area and are bottle fed then move to open front shelters until about 4-500 pounds.

i don't know if my fly problems are mine or if they are due to the large amount of livestock in the area but i have to find some kind of solution to try to manage them. i guess i was wondering how others manage flies on their farms. i guess it doesn't matter what the animal, curious how others manage the situation. i didn't know if a person could maybe use a drone to spray the whole 3.5 acre yard, or i have seen people round here with blower/chemical units in the back of pickups. curious how others manage flies on their farms, what methods they use to treat them, and maybe insecticides used. appreciate the replies.
