Eastern NE KS | Yet there is a chance your heifers are someone's investment in cows.
As high value heifers sold in '13 and '14, I thought they were too high to make cows. Yet, the market dropped in the fall of 2015 from increased calf supply. I was convinced heifers were going to the feedlot but not so much.
Today, I'm watching the heifers on feed like a hawk hunting a field mouse. The highest recent concentration I recall is 39% and the latest report was 37.5%. This is marginally lower that echos the comments of 'slight heifer retention has begun'.
Conflicting Info:
I remember feedlot heifer percent dropping to the low 30's back '14-'15 and I thought that pattern would happen again. It is not there yet.
The heifers on feed surveys feedlots over 1000 head. That allows for a lot of unknown plans for heifers. Is this the known-unknown to upset the market in the near future?
