Subject: Dollar General stores

ECWI
I had DG stock 15-20 years ago. It was a good business model for stockholders as well as small communities. Really is not a "Dollar store" where everything is a buck.
Unfortunately the small groceries were closing, and DG was a good small alternative for towns which could not support a Piggly Wiggly, Hyvee, Walmart, Costco. DG did not want to compete with the big ones, preferred to stay 30-60 miles away from big stores. Then they could charge a small premium knowing people would pay 5-10% more vs driving 30 miles.
While I do not frequent one regularly, I did notice they are now pushing fresh food and utilizing delivery services. Local store went to self checkouts, but I believe because of theft are going away from them now.
No longer own the stock but still watch it.
As to employees, maybe not such a great career unless you are the manager. Used to be the number of employees/hours was based on store sales. Employees needed to drive between 2 stores to get enough hours until a new store became established..
