NWIL | If I had the opportunity to get on a good pasture (very little in my area anymore), I'd be doing what it would take to lock it up. That may involve simply moving some of my cows onto it, moving a few of my own and adding a few more, or whatever. The main thing is, get it rented and get some cows on it.
If you are offered it, and you have interest, take it. When its getting mowed and baled next year, you can bet the chances would be real high of a pickup pulling in as he's raking it next summer and getting the deal done on the spot.
Cows are a long term game, not just in numbers of them, but in pasture/facilities and breeding/genetics. Look at this from a strategic viewpoint.
