The goal of empowerment is based on the idea of showing respect for people. Respect for people extends beyond just the end customer and can include the workers, suppliers, and society.
When the plant I work in was owned by Dow Chemical they pushed empowerment. Their version was different than what you talk about. Empowerment is a self directed work place. Now we are no longer Dow owned but still self directed to a point. I don’t see my boss or hear from daily. My old boss I could go months without seeing or directing hearing from her. I know what needs done daily, weekly, monthly and annually. We have a tool to check off and document that it’s done. We get a link to what was assigned to maintenance so we know what to prep for them. From roughly 2 pm on Friday to Monday at 5am their is no supervision operations and logistics know what to do if an issue arise you call an no call person talking to them they rarely get called.
