central Ohio | Unfortunately, bad reputations are hard to overcome & I believe what you say is true in your area. Having been involved with Limmy's for 50 years, I've seen a few fads come & go. Limousin's peak of popularity was probably in the 90's. Too many flighty cattle were marketed that should have been slaughtered. You'll think I'm biased but the breed as a whole has become one of the more docile breeds available now. There's independent data to back that up. For what it's worth, as a kid, we used Charolais bulls on our commercial cow herd. They've improved too, based on their popularity.
Lack of marbling was their other Achilles heal. A lot of improvement has been made on that trait too.
Every breed has a weakness.
Even though black Angus is the dominant beef breed, for several years the #1 beef bull for Select Sires (sales volume) was a purebred, homo black, homo polled Limousin. About 95% of that semen went towards the beef-on-dairy sector & helped fill the demand for CAB.
I agree with the other responses that suggested the OP identify his market. I would only add that maximum heterosis will occur by using a purebred & not a hybrid.
Sorry for the lengthy response.
