| Need more info. Where/how do you plan to market the calf crop? Best cross will vary depending on region. Here, char crosses sell pretty hot at Faith and ft Pierre. Other local barns will be $200-400/hd back on the same calves as they just don’t bring enough char bunches in to make loads.
The calving issue deal is going to be a tough one if you’re in a colder climate. Crossed calves are usually slower out of the gate. If you’re calving in 40-60*F temps, probably not an issue. 15-30* and you will have more problems than a straight bred angus.
If you already have some simm in the mothers, maybe push those genes a little harder? If you’re going to have the simm head, should at least get the frame to match it. | |
