Does the landlord expect 25 pairs at minimum? If not, that opens the door to a smaller gulp from the fire hose. Maybe hot wire a portion for him to hay. Be careful with that because your calves will love the Hayfield regrowth.

I rent pasture that runs 65 pair but the landlord gives me some flexibility to to run fewer than that. He runs 2-3 pair with ours to use our bull(s) so we are a little tangled together. It is a good thing. I like to have 59-60 pair plus a couple of bulls early.

I lean towards get started using it if you can find a way. Even consider a holding fee while he hays it.
