West Central Illinois | Mineral is frustrating to me, even getting something decent quality doesn't guarantee consumption. Last year during the Kent promo I ordered a pallet of Kent Framework 365 Mineral Pasture Breeder Aide. All the micros i believe were from chelated minerals, the selenium was selenium yeast not sodium selenite looked like a really good mineral. Had hardly any consumption all summer, even when they went to cornstalks or later on feeding hay usually consumption picks up still maybe had only 10% of what they should have been consuming. Ended up getting frustrated with this almost 1 yr old mineral and sold it on facebook marketplace for $10 less a bag than i paid to somebody that used a tmr.
Tried 5 bg Kent Framework 365 Performance ADE Availa 4 this year before getting a plt as I was skeptical consumption would be any better and now they've been averaging around the correct amount per hd per day roughly with how long a bag lasts in the mineral feeder with independence rock salt in the other compartment of the feeders. No idea what was throwing them off on the first mix, only differences i could see was it used calcium iodate instead of calcium sulfate, magnesium sulfate instead of magnesium oxide which usually can be bitter so i've been told. And then slightly less Zn, CU, and MN
Not sure what throws them off like that but like I said having to sell all those bags at a loss that they wouldn't eat really ticked me off. Typically for me the main mineral consumption is whenever I turnout on cornstalks in the fall through hay feeding season and by the time we're grazing they don't consume as much but they really switch to the rock salt whereas in the winter they don't use much rock salt.
