I have a lot of coyotes around but never had a problem of any kind other than they sometimes wake us up at night. My Hereford cows do a good job of protecting their young calves. We have had sheep, my daughter loves to knit and had Icelandics but just didn't work with my cattle and rotational grazing system - they ignore my single hot wires and 5 wire perimeter barb wire fences. I don't have a pen for them, just a pasture out of sight of the cows. I've found Bulls stay much calmer with a buddy or a cow with them from Feb to July. When I have two bulls together, usually a father and son, I make sure there is a difference in size and age so they don't need to fight to determine who's boss. I've never had my Hereford bulls break anything. If they do they go on the trailer. I do like bulls that chase cows in heat, that's the only aggression I want from a bull. Thanks again for the info about donkeys. I'm not interested in feeding a pet year around but the wife is intrigued by the idea so thought I'd ask. An older bred cow and the bull will be moved in the next few days when the snow melts. |
