Nebraska aka the boondocks
I only try and calculate what goes on in my own area, and then state because beyond that I don’t have the knowledge base or contacts to do so. My experience is this, you can’t outguess or out calculate the usda. Let’s take this last year as an example. I had talked to many other farmers, bankers, crop insurance agents etc. the average yield per farmer from north platte to Kearney was at best average, to 40 bushel below average for corn across hundreds of farms. I have heard similar results from eastern Nebraska, with 10-25 below being the norm. A state wide, and regional elevator group, had their marketing specialist out and based upon their internal data , grain on hand what customers have, etc etc, they felt Nebraska was 187.8. Long story short, it doesn’t matter what we think, nor if we are right. It will show up in basis? Not around here
