When I very young there was a guy that used to check wire a smaller 25-30 acre field in are area. A perfectly checked field would look like a checker board during the summer, according to dad if everything went perfect planting you could cultivate crossways of original planting direction to take out the weeds between the original rows. Check wire planting dropped multiple seeds per drop, 160 rods of wire would be a 1/2 mile long.
