Eastern NE KS | "Red presents itself as more of a yellow" (when the diluter gene was present).
This is the common result BUT the expression of the diluter is not as textbook many other color issues. Galant a very early and highly popular ai sire was deep red but he sired many diluted black calves when crossed with a black cow. He also aired black calves so he only carried one copy of the diluter gene.
We admitted if you see yellow (cream) color, the animal was a diluter carrier. But in the 70's if it was a red simmental parent, you could get a diluted black calf.
At the time, the fullblood Fleckvieh 'race' of Simmentals were much less frequently diluted than the Swiss or French Simmis.
