Eastern NE KS | Way back, we thought and used red from two black heterozygous parents assured us the red calf was diluter free. I do not recall this mating and wild type interaction. We used 2 successive red sires that were from black parents to push out the diluter 'problem'. These bulls were also called 'non-spotter' because they were solid red without any white.
After using these bulls and saving several daughters. I was able to predict the remaining herd (80 cows) by individual pedigree and calculated probability could yield 8 gray/chocolate calves when crossed with new homo black bulls. We usually got 6-7 much to my father's surprise at his son's/my prediction.
