At those rates why wouldn’t someone at least get more info . How many replacement acres could rented or bought?
Because I would wager somebody is going to screwed over when all is said and done on some of these deals, and think enough of my neighbors to not change the landscape.
Totally agree on both parts of your comment. Other thing is, if you want your children and their offspring to farm, tying your land up for years to come doesn't accomplish that. It's a big get quick rich scheme, and it's sad to see how many 3rd and 4th generation farmers are falling for it.
I had a guy in his 60's tell me the other day that he had a neighbor come ask him if he would consider the neighbor's kid to farm his ground once he retired. The neighbor had just signed up for a bunch of solar. The guy told me "that guy and his kid got crossed off my list, why should he sign his property up, kid can't farm it now, then they want to come farm mine?"
This deal is going to cause all kinds of artificially high cash rents and land purchases close to the areas where they go in. Market manipulation caused by the government promoting things it shouldn't have it's fingers in. Let the electricity market work on it's own.
