You have to check the ingredients. Some (a lot) have stuff a person doesn't want. But usually in the same store there will be at least one with a pretty good list of ingredients.

Nathan's Hot dog, Wright bacon. Not all their offerings. Just the ones without added sugar.

I think what he says is they are better than high carbohydrate processed food like cereal and grain products.

What a food does to your insulin levels is key. An insulin spike once in a while is normal and not problematic. It is constantly high insulin that leads to insulin resistance and eventually metabolic syndrome. The end game of metabolic syndrome is diabetes and a half dozen other associated diseases.

So eating carbs and drinking carbs all day long is what is problematic. Keeping insulin levels high leading to insulin resistance and eventually metabolic syndrome.

He says eat whatever you can afford. If baloney is the best you can do, it is still better than Fruit Loops.

Personally I find the processed meats expensive. A pork loin is a lot better choice. But some people can't or choose not to cook and choose ready to eat foods. That is where the baloney and hot dogs come in.
