Latimer Iowa
Thanks. I could see 1000 bucks total for all 4 years but that would still be getting paid very well. I do a couple of my friends’ sites for a steak dinner.

We are all nitrogen based plans here as our P index’s are below the threshold. I don’t have familiarity with a P based plan. We only have B slopes as dominant critical areas and apply at a reasonable rate. It’s easiest to just accept the DNR standards for manure and crop production then to try and prove something different. Once you have your field info together, which you would from previous MMP plans, it’s basically some data entry, and figuring out your crop rotation. You can even use the same form for multiple years of rotation is the same. I am by no means a computer guy and figured it out. The preparers need the info from you anyway so might as well just put it on the form yourself. Don’t be intimidated by the idea of a DNR inspection. As long as you are following the plan and documentation they are no big deal.

There is a very good MMP preparer in Iowa Falls Iowa, I deal with them on some of the manure we get from sites we don’t own, but they do get paid well.

Iowa state extension does do a training class on the calculations as well, just google Rusle2 and ISU extension. For the first time guy it wouldn’t be the worst idea to attend one. Kapil Arora from ISU extension is very helpful, he is also one of the guys that comes around and does the annual applicator training meetings so you may know him if you apply your own manure.

If you have multiple sites it is really worth learning to do your own. I am willing to work for over $1000 an hour•••
