I have a herd of red Simmental and red angus cows. Which will give me more black calves, Homo black Simmental or purebred black Angus bulls?

A Homo Black Bull will sire all black calves on your red cows. The resulting calves will be genetically half black and half red. Black is dominate.

Odds are very high most black Angus bulls are homozygous black but it's not guaranteed.

If an Angus bull is carrying a red gene then he will throw red calves along with black calves when used on red cows, and it would be right at a 50/50 split.

No red cows carry a black gene, because if they did they would be black. But black hided animals very well could be carrying a red gene.
