I’ve used most all kinds in erosion mulching . They all are DESIGNED for straw or stalks.  The top spread can be made to work better by taking chain off top roller and boxing in the output area to make more air flow.  I have a top spread that I’ve modified and use it on grass hay and it works very well. I’m out of area of stalks and straw and only  use it for mulching or feeding.
