You are 100% Correct on Volker. He was the person that talked Nixon's Secretary of the Treasury ( Connelly I think it was) to go off the gold standard Nixon had to finally agree but it was Volker's idea.
Volker set your house of fire, Then he is hired to put out the fire he started and he is hailed as a hero/genius. Only in America can you screw up so bad that your consider a hero.
