The people renting a $600/mo apartment aren't sniffing a 40% tax bracket. Definitely closer to 0 than 40. If they are they aren't worried about the rent increase.
I you live in ILL @ minimum would pay is 4.95% state income tax and 7.65% SS- medicare tax= 12.6%. Would require 15% of pretax income
