NE Iowa | Yeah, I saw a bunch of slat walls while I was in Europe looking at some cattle. Mine is treated 2x6’s spaced 1.5” apart. It was a couple hundred dollars more than a curtain when we built it - benefits are it works 24/7, should last quite a bit longer than a curtain, and the airflow is excellent (open ridge on the building too).
Top of the feed apron is 14” down from the top of the wall and cattle floor is 24” down from the top of the wall. Wall is 10” thick. Bottom of the guardrail is 16” above the wall. Works great for cattle 500+ pounds.
Red/white ones are fullblood fleckviehs and everybody else is fullblood/crossbred Belgian blues. The flecks are a new side project, but I’ve raised blues for 26 years now. | |
