East of Broken Bow
You know, I heard over and over that if it weren't for illegal aliens, the meat packing industry would shutter. Last year, a meat packer in Omaha was raided by ICE, and all the illegal workers they could find were deported. I read article after article about how the plant is going to have to close because without the illegals, there would be no one to do the meat processing. The doom and gloom of it all was downright depressing, with all the opinion pieces going on and on about how that plant will have to close, and how many people it will put out of work, and how it could have a domino effect throughout the meat industry, with plant after plant shutting down. Had all the makings of a disaster just waiting to happen, all because that meat plant was losing the 'benefits' of having illegal workers.

Then, reality showed up, the meat plant put out ads looking for workers, and by the end of the week, had a full force of LEGAL workers in the plant. Yes there were a few snags as the new workers needed some training, but the long and short of it was that the illegals were very quickly replaced with legal workers. Exactly zero of the gloom and doom predictions came true, so forgive me if I don't put a whole lot of stock in some 'expert' who tells me that milk would double. I don't see how anyone with common sense can come to that conclusion. Even if they had to double the pay of the workers, to get enough people hired, milk prices would only double if labor was 100% of the cost of milk.

Now, I don't know how that will shake out in places like California, where some places have over 1/4 of their work force illegal, but that seems to me to be more a problem caused by poor leadership in California, than anything else.
