No doubt the result of focusing on carcass issues for about 30 years. Before that the overriding issue was frame. Back then animals of the same age, the one a half inch taller was preferred no matter the structural issues it carried as well.
Now, that overriding focus is spreading into cow/calf issues. However, any improvement may be slow as many of these issues have lower heritability than general growth and carcass.
