Northeast Iowa | I've had good luck with Calf Optimizer Gel. Get 10 cc of paste into them as soon after birth as possible. https://fourwindsangus.com/
Learned about a protocol at a county cattlemen's association meeting 20+ years ago. It takes too much lead time to help you now. Takes about 7-8 weeks before calving to give two rounds of four different shots to donor cow(s) and then collect blood after that. We've had one cow yield 15-25 doses per year on average at about $2 per dose having the blood collected on the farm and spun in the centrifuge at the clinic. Takes around 50-60 ml that you give to each calf. The vet recommended older cows as donors, since they would have maximum immunity by consistently raising calves without scours issues.
You can collect the blood any time of year and freeze the serum to use in future years. | |
