Subject: RE: Converted Crop Ground to Grass

West Central Illinois
Im breaking out just 6 acres out of crop this year but im going to try something else to ease the transition from corn to grass. Its in rye right now then in may I'll plant it to sorghum sudangrass and graze that a few rotations until october then probably spring plant cool season grasses in spring. I feel that the transition is harder on grass being planted right after corn not sure if chemical residue, soil biology issue or both but im trying to reduce the yield drag of first year grass planting. Maybe a little shot of urea would help to get it established but I dont want to be applying fertilizer to pasture ground going forward really just trying to manage manure distribution better.
